Sweet Secluded Spots Around Kona

I love how small Kona is, and I love that the spots around are so quiet. A friend and I went to “The End of the World”, a local cliff jumping spot, and there was no one else around! Then we headed out to explore Hokulia, and we had the whole shoreline to ourselves.

Everyone has told me that the best spots on the island are behind gates, on private property. So I’m thinking, that sounds a bit illegal.. so I was a bit weary hopping these fences to check out Anna’s pond. Luckily, we didn’t run into a single soul on the way in. It wasn’t until the way out that we were climbing over these fences that we saw another group of people coming out. They greeted us nonchalantly and continued on their way. I guess this is something I just have to get used to if I want to go on adventures.

Now if you Google “Anna’s Pond Waimea” you’d see quite a few photos of a raging waterfall. This wasn’t our case. It’s been a week since it’s rained, and we got a little trickle. Note to self: the best time to visit waterfalls is right after heavy rain.

Sea turtles and a beautiful sunset on the beach!? What a great day to end the day! I have just discovered this beach right behind the harbor that our dive boats depart from. There is a beach inside Kaloko-Honokohau National Historic Park that is a known resting spot for sea turtles, although I’m not sure how known, because there were only five people around when I got there. You can find these guys all over the sand, and in the shallows, just grazing away. I’m definitely bringing my mask and snorkel next time I come out here!

Here are just a few spots I’ve hit since I’ve been in Kona. I’ve been super busy working and I’m hoping to get more into underwater photography! I’m hoping to give you guys a better look into my underwater adventures.
