Ice Climbing on Fox Glacier!
I've got to take a second to say, it was such an awesome experience traveling around New Zealand with my cousin, Alexander Le. I can't say that I have met many people that share my thirst for adventure and exploration, but he's one of them. I didn't really know what to expect when Alex came to visit me, because we literally didn't do any planning at all.. but it turned out to be freaking epic. Our trip was literally one adventure after another, and we were always on our toes.
One of these awesome days was spent ice climbing on Fox Glacier.. This was a day of many firsts for me. First time riding a helicopter, first time on a glacier, first time ice climbing, first time in an ice cave.. The helicopter ride was amazing. There were many times during flight that the chopper came so close to land, and I found the physics of flying the machine quite intriguing. It was completely different from flying a plane. Anyway, when we landed on the glacier, I was in complete awe. The snow glowed a beautiful blue-white, and the surrounding rocky cliffs were a dark, ashy contrast. Words don't quite do justice, yet neither do pictures.
Walking on a glacier alone, was breathtakingly beautiful. Then the fact that we were ice climbing was even more mind-blowing. All of the water here in New Zealand is so beautiful, and the glacier pools were no different. I couldn't resist jumping into the water, despite how miserably cold it looked.
An overall amazing experience, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Enjoy the photos guys!
