Getting Moving!
Why haven’t I posted in so long? What have I been up to?
Why I haven’t posted in so long
Over the past several months, I sent a package back to the states from Australia. Unfortunately, my package was lost for a few months, and I felt like I’d lost everything. My hard drive was in that package, which had all of my photos and videos from my travels. On top of that, I washed my phone in the hostel washing machine, and fried my computer in the same week. I felt hopeless, and I sort of lost my motivation to write and continuing documenting my travels. I was quite fortunate that my package finally arrived... in tatters, but my hard drive was still in tact!
What I’ve been up to
I finished up working at Black Water in May, and spent a month exploring bits of New Zealand and the west coast of Australia with my best friend Candace. Coming home after being away for so long was such an odd feeling.
In August, James came to visit and we traveled 11,024 miles in total all around the US. Keep an eye out for my blog posts coming soon about our adventures on this trip! And after James left back to New Zealand in September, I moved to Hawaii!
Where am I now
I left New Zealand looking for a new adventure. Not really ever knowing what that adventure may be. Here I am, a few months later. Working as a Divemaster in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii and loving it! It wasn’t too hard to pick up and move, seeing as most of my belongings fit in a backpack.
The hardest thing about moving for me was starting fresh. When you’ve been living somewhere for so long, you get comfortable. You know the area, the people, the food, the activities. I came to Kona without knowing a soul here, and not much money in my pocket. As I write this post, I’m laying in my hostel bed that I’ve been staying in since I arrived 3 weeks ago. There have been countless times when I’ve questioned my sanity, wondering what the heck I was thinking moving all the way out here by myself. I offered to work doubles because it was better than coming home to eat dinner and going to sleep at 8pm. No one ever said chasing your dreams is easy, but it sure is worthwhile. With each day, I fall more and more in love with this island and it’s beautiful people.
A bit of inspiration
I cannot emphasize enough, the importance of solo adventures. Get out and do something new, on your own, for yourself. So many people get so busy and preoccupied with every day life, and they forget to enjoy their own company. Go out on a walk around the park and reflect on your day. Breathe in the surrounding air and fully take in the environment around you. Leave your phone at home and disconnect from the media world. “If you’re never by yourself, how will you ever know yourself?”
