The Rotorua Redwoods
Yes, we came all the way to New Zealand from California, just to see the Redwood trees. Debbie has a deep love and appreciation for trees, and I thought it would be an awesome hike, so why not. We ended up doing two days in the Redwoods and Whakarewarewa Forest; who would've guessed? We had a blast hiking and taking pictures on the first day, and we spent the night at the Trout Pool Reserve again. On the second day, we went for a good long run. I'm so proud of Debbie for coming running with me! It felt really great to have someone to enjoy the run with. We haven't been doing much other than short hikes and eating, so it was really great to get out and get our blood flowing, and the fresh forest air definitely helped.
I enjoyed the Redwoods more than I thought I would actually. Debbie loves them so much that her passion and energy resonated outwards and I could feel it. I have always been one to love the water over land any day, and I don't typically enjoy hikes unless there is some kind of stream or water flowing in the area, but the Whakarewarewa Forest changed my perspective.
