The Small Joys of Oahu
This is such a late post, and I've been putting it off for so long because on top of being busy moving out and preparing for New Zealand, I really just can't find the words to describe my experience here. This trip was a last minute decision, we had just gotten back from Canada the night before and my aunt and uncle decided they wanted to take me to Hawaii.. Next thing I know, I'm catching the first flight out at 6 am to Honolulu lol.
Here are a few of my favorite pictures I took on the island of Oahu. I honestly didn't think I would love Hawaii so much, because everyone talks about it all the time and I just saw it as a vacation destination that's overrated. I'm more for exploring the unexplored, and visiting more unusual places. However, this place still stole my heart. We stayed away from major tourist destinations (aside from visiting the Pearl Harbor Memorial which was an amazing experience regardless). I thoroughly enjoyed the less populated beaches and smaller piers that locals fish on. I can honestly say that I wasn't one for sight-seeing so much as I am one to climb mountains and jump off of cliff, but because this trip was so short, I did a fair share of driving along the coast and sight-seeing. My aunt and uncle brought me a greater appreciation for the small things: the mountain peaks, the gentle crashing of the waves, the sunsets; the beautiful things in life that don't need an extra shot of adrenaline lol. I'm always on the go and I'm always trying to fit more and more in my schedule because I want to make the best out of my time, but as cliche as it sounds, I needed this to remind me to stop and smell the roses. For those of you ambitious adventure seekers and hard-workers, it feels amazing to work so hard and see your progress, but it also feels amazing to relax and enjoy what you have right in front of you!
I had so much to say about this place, but I'll just keep it short and sweet and I'll keep the details for my grandchildren haha. People ask me the most beautiful place I've ever been to, and to date, it would be a tie between Iceland and Hawaii. They are both completely and utterly, breathtakingly beautiful in their own ways. I'll let the pictures and videos speak for themselves <3
